Island Bet will offer virtual games as well as sports and political betting

Jamaican mobile sports betting pioneer Island Bet is to launch its virtual gaming and downloadable application this month on the back of the success of its election betting market.

Island Bet, owned by Sizzling Slots, became the first operator to offer political betting in the Caribbean country earlier this year, and claimed to have doubled its number of active customers during the general election in February.

Now the company has told Jamaica’s Sunday Business newspaper that it is to invest "roughly $50m (€45.0m) over the next three months" in its virtual betting and mobile app.

"We have actually recently done an upgrade to the system based on what our customers were saying. The downloadable version will be available through the IOS and Google Play Stores," said Adam Epstein, Sizzling Slots’ managing director and chief operating officer.

The tech start-up and bookmaker went live in September 2015 through its platform IslandBet.com, and already offers markets on 50 sports.

The possibilities offered by gambling in the Caribbean and Latin America will be discussed at this year’s Juegos Miami event, which takes place at The Biltmore, Coral Gables in Miami from May 31 to June 3.

* Attendance at Juegos Miami will be limited to senior decision makers (owner, director, C-Level exec) from operating companies (private and public including state lotteries), government and regulators from the Latin America and Caribbean region.
