Deal is Intralot's first post-PASPA sports betting partnership

Greek gaming solutions provider Intralot has signed a two-year extension to its online systems contract with the New Mexico Lottery alongside a deal to power a new sports lottery product.

The lottery is set to become the first in the US to roll out a game where awarding of prizes is determined by the outcome of sporting events. The launch was unanimously approved by the New Mexico Lottery Board in October this year, and will see the new game rolled out across the lottery’s network of 1,100 retail terminals.

Intralot chief executive Antonios Kerastaris hailed the deal, which he said “broke new ground” for his company, and marked its first move into the US sports betting market following the repeal of the Professinal and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in May.

“I look forward to the new era bringing in all our lottery modernization expertise while extending my sincere thanks the New Mexico Lottery for their trust and continued partnership,” he said.

The game sees players select a series of potential outcomes from a range of sporting events, similar to an accumulator or parlay wager, and is to be powered by Intralot’s Sports Lottery Gaming Platform.

Intralot will also supply the lottery with a range of complementary solutions, including a suite of fully managed services such as risk management and trading tools.

“Today we reinforced our strong partnership with our systems vendor, Intralot by extending our contract for another 2 years,” New Mexico Lottery chief executive David Barden commented.

“We also moved the lottery industry forward as we took the approval from our board to launch a sports lottery game throughout our retail network,” he continued. “We are convinced sports lottery games will provide new and exciting experiences for our players while significantly increasing dollars being transferred to our scholarship fund for student beneficiaries.

“We are always looking for games that strengthen our Lottery brand by attracting Millennials and other new players,” Barden added. “Lottery games of this type are fun to play and will move us in that direction.”
