Calls for broader legalisation of sports betting in the US appear to be growing stronger, with Michele Roberts (pictured), the executive director of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), the latest high-profile individual to speak out. Despite saying that the NBPA does not have an official position on such wagering activities, Roberts stated that the organisation is open to exploring wider legislation and the benefits it can offer to the National Basketball Association and its players...

Meanwhile, Michael Chambrello has opted to rejoin GTECH as chief executive of the firm’s North America Lottery division. Chambrello spent 17 years with GTECH before departing in 1998 for Scientific Games where he went on to serve in a number of senior roles and most recently as CEO. He opted to exit Scientific Games in 2013 and will now return to GTECH to oversee the company’s lottery technology solutions business...

Also in the Americas region, the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in New Jersey is to become the first facility in the US to launch a skill-based gaming event. The ‘$10,000 Guaranteed Basketball Free Throw Tournament’ will give players the chance to win real-money prizes by taking part in a skill-based game. The event, which has been approved by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, will take place on March 21...

Over in Europe, Finnish national gaming operator RAY has posted a year-on-year drop in 2014. Full-year revenue amounted to €776.4m ($881.1m), down 1.9 per cent on the previous year...

Meanwhile in the UK, 24/7 Gaming Group has opted against a planned reverse takeover with an unnamed binary options provider. Under AIM rules, the firm will now be deemed as an ‘investing company’.
