Players have staked $39.8m since the market opened in June.

The Delaware Lottery has seen amounts wagered on sports more than double for the period ended September 30th.

Stakes placed between August 27th and September 30th grew from $7.7m to $16.8m, in a period that coincided with the National Football League (NFL) season kick-off.

The number of wagers placed also grew sharply, rising 182% sequentially to 343,245.

Accounting for $11.6m of this total, Delaware Park was the clear market leader for sports betting in the state, accounting for 69% of total stakes. Dover Downs came in a distant second, with $3.3m in stakes, with Harrington Raceway in last place with $2.0m.

Players won a total of $13.2m, with a further $450,504 paid out in vendor fees. This left net proceeds of $3.2m for the state, compared to $706,780 for the month ended August 26th.

Since Delaware launched land-based sports betting on June 5th, players have wagered a total of $39.8m, with $27.9m coming via Delaware Park. Players have placed 657,117 bets, with total net proceeds for the state of $5.2m generated to date.
