Betway has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with the ITF

Tennis’ global governing body has signed the sport’s most prominent partnership with a gambling firm after Betway became an international sponsor of both the Davis Cup and Fed Cup national team tournaments.

With the Davis Cup final between Great Britain and Belgium to begin on Friday, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced that the betting operator had joined banking group BNP Paribas, business services provider Adecco, NH Hotels and media group beIN Sports as the two competitions’ official partners.

The three-year deal will give Betway courtside branding at Davis Cup and Fed Cup group-stage matches as well as the opportunity to work with organisers of both tournaments on a range of fan engagement initiatives.

“To continue strengthening our flagship events, Davis Cup and Fed Cup, the support of strong and creative partners like Betway, who will elevate our fans’ enjoyment of the competitions, is an important initiative," ITF president David Haggerty said. “Betway is a well-respected international betting brand; the ITF and Betway share the mission to keep the sport of tennis clean.”

Tennis has been identified as a key focus of suspicious betting activity throughout 2015, with ESSA – of which Betway is a member – last month reporting that it has been the subject of 75 per cent of incidents so far this year. The sports integrity unit’s secretary general Khalid Ali told TotallyGaming in September that the sport is a “growing concern”.

Anthony Werkman, marketing and operations director at Betway, said: “Davis Cup and Fed Cup fit perfectly within our roster of exciting, high profile sponsorships. We are especially looking forward to this weekend’s Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final in Belgium, as it is a key market for us following our recent launch in the country.”
