The club has partnered GambleAware to address gambling-related harm

Crystal Palace FC has become the first Premier League club to enter a GambleAware initiative to address gambling-related harm within football.

GambleAware wrote to all nine of the Premier clubs that have their shirts sponsored by gambling businesses and, while a number of them responded, it was Crystal Palace that made the first move.

The Selhurst Park-based club has now entered into a new partnership with the charity to produce advertisements and promotion materials to raise awareness of the risks of gambling.

The website will be seen on camera, LED boards, Stadium TV and Statzone TV as a Big Screen Advert, as well as being featured on the homepage and partners page.

GambleAware CEO Marc Etches told “We all have a responsibility to help educate and protect potential problem gamblers, and our partnership with Crystal Palace FC highlights that this responsibility lies with sports clubs as well as those in the gambling industry.

“We hope this partnership with Crystal Palace will serve as an example to other clubs who could offer similar awareness raising initiatives in the future. With nine premier league clubs now sponsored by gambling companies, it is important we take action to help protect those who are at risk and encourage people to visit if they need support.”

Steve Parish, Chairman of Crystal Palace FC, added: “As a Premier League club, we recognise our responsibility of helping promote safe and responsible gambling. I’m pleased that Crystal Palace are the first club to form a partnership with GambleAware, and I hope we can play a part in raising awareness about their service and help those individuals who need support.”

Jon Collins, Director of ManBetX, commented: “ManBetX are committed to helping people gamble responsibly and welcome the club’s involvement with GambleAware. As the official shirt sponsor of Crystal Palace FC, we have an added degree of responsibility to support those who offer help and free advice to ensure people gamble responsibly, both within football and the wider community.”

Totally Gaming says: The campaign will take place during the final three games of the season to promote both the support and treatment made available by the industry charity. GambleAware, who this week announced a record-breaking £9.4 million in voluntary donations for the 12 months ending 31 March 2018, will continue to encourage the other Premier League clubs, both with and without gambling-based sponsorship, to follow the Eagles' lead.
