bwin targets global reach from Borussia Dortmund partnership

The operator signed a four-year partnership with Borussia Dortmund

As the new Champion Partner of Borussia Dortmund (BVB), bwin is aiming to leverage the Bundesliga club’s international reach to maximise success of the four-year partnership.

Running until the end of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season, the new partnership will see bwin feature prominently in-stadia on both large-scale LED perimeter banners and on pitch ‘CamCarpets’ during Dortmund’s seventeen home Bundesliga fixtures.

Having just announced the deal this week, bwin is reluctant to disclose too many details around how they will boost the in-stadia experience for BVB fans, but the company revealed there had been “fruitful discussions” around plans for the delivery of live odds, match data and prize giveaways.

Jay Dossetter, head of media relations at bwin, told “We are looking at several ideas which have worked successfully with other European club partners in the past, and we are also bringing some fresh creative thought to the table.

“One thing we are very good at is data and analysis. We are looking at ways to integrate that data into a variety of BVB’s digital channels such as their popular BVB-Matchday-App. Match odds, player stats, information about the opposition and other analysis are features which are much in demand by fans and we are in a great position to deliver it to them.”

Dossetter also acknowledged that the global reach of the 1997 Champions League and five-time Bundesliga winners was a big motivation for bwin pursuing a deal.

“We made a very conscious decision to seek an internationally respected club with a global reach,” he said. “Of course, the German market is hugely important to us but Dortmund has a profile that goes way beyond the German border and one that fits perfectly with bwin’s global brand.”

“Our aim is to leverage this international reach and we are certain that the partnership will not only be good for bwin’s brand recognition but will help us engage with football fans around the world.”

Totally Gaming says: European sports betting operator bwin wants to go above and beyond traditional branding integration for its partnership with Borussia Dortmund. The bookmaker will provide fans with latest odds and match information via mobile apps, while there will also be opportunities to win exclusive prizes, including entry to a special event held by the 1997 Champions League winners.
