Independent UK bookmaker Betfred has signed an exclusive five-year deal with Racecourse Media Group that will see it provide 32 horseracing tracks with on-course and pool betting services. The agreement, signed through its Totepool subsidiary, now means that it has exclusive rights at all but two British courses, Chester and Bangor, and will operate on-course betting shops at prestigious tracks including Cheltenham, Aintree, Newmarket, Epsom, York, Newbury, Goodwood, Sandown and Ascot.

“We are delighted to agree this new long-term contract and to extend a relationship that first saw pool operation start at Newmarket and Carlisle in 1929 to the Racecourse Media Group tracks of today,” said Phil Siers, Managing Director for Totepool.

“With this new deal in place, Betfred through Totepool, will consolidate its position as the exclusive supplier of tote pool products on UK racecourses.

“Totepool will make a significant capital investment in the business and expects this investment to drive a high rate of return and to quickly help Totepool and its partners deliver a flagship operation,” he added.

Richard Fitzgerald, Chief Executive Officer for Racecourse Media Group, said he was also delighted with the deal. “[The agreement] guarantees and protects the future of pool betting and Totepool products at our racecourses until July of 2018.

“Both Betfred and Totepool are committed to developing the on-course business by working very closely with the racecourses. The aim is to not only provide a first-class service for race-goers but also to grow the business for the benefit of the sport as a whole.”
