BetFred confirms Barr as new finance director

John Haddock, chief executive of BetFred, has confirmed in a statement to that Nicola Barr is to replace Barry Nightingale as the gambling company’s group finance director.

Barr first joined BetFred in 2006 and has held a number of roles in that time, including her most recent job as group financial controller. She will be promoted from this role to her new position as group finance director.

In a statement issued to, Haddock noted that Barr played an important role in BetFred’s acquisition of The Tote bookmaking business in 2011.

“We have promoted from within and Nicola Barr now has the position of group finance director,” Haddock said.

“Nicola has been with Betfred since January 2006. In that time Nicola has progressed from being our call centre and internet financial accountant to head of reporting and then to group financial controller.

“Nicola played a very important role in our acquisition of The Tote in July 2011.”

Upon taking the role, Barr will replace Nightingale, who is due to depart the company in January in order to take up a new position with travel group Monarch. Nightingale first joined BetFred in 2008 but will now return to the leisure industry, having previously held roles with Airtours and EasyGroup.

“We would like to wish Barry Nightingale all the best and thank him for his contribution to Betfred,” Haddock added.
