Bookmaker now sponsors all three professional tiers of the sport

Betfred has strengthened its ties with English Rugby League, after announcing an extension to its sponsorship deal with the sport.

The UK based bookmaker is to become the title sponsor of the both the Championship and League 1 until 2019, meaning the firm now sponsors all three professional levels of the sport.

Betfred head of media Mark Pearson, told TotallyGaming.com: “We were absolutely delighted with our first year of sponsoring the Super League, that’s why we’ve expanded our sponsorship, because we realise it’s not just about the top tier.

“We are proud to support Rugby League.”

As part of the partnership brand exposure for Betfred is to be received courtesy of in stadia perimeter, which will be a constant feature across all games in the two divisions.

Also included as part of the deal is the Championship’s Summer Bash, hosted at Blackpool FC’s Bloomfield Road in May, with all six fixtures set to be featured live on Sky Sports.

Ralph Rimmer, chief executive of the rugby football league, said: “We are delighted that Betfred have extended their involvement in the sport to the Championship and League 1.

“Betfred’s first year involved in the Super League was an unquestionable success and I am certain that they will bring passion and enthusiasm to their extended sponsorship.

“The Championship and League 1 provide great entertainment and are an integral part of the game, and the fact that Betfred have extended their sponsorship to these tiers of the sport demonstrates the value they see in being involved in Rugby League.

“The Betfred Championship is now one of the most geographically diverse competitions in the world, including teams from Toronto, Toulouse and London, and with this new deal I am certain both competitions will go from strength to strength.”

Totally Gaming says: Following its debut season as title partner of the Super League last year, Betfred has now taken the decision to increase its involvement into the game. That in itself speaks volumes for what the bookmaker believes it got out of the deal, and with its Rugby League partnerships both running until 2019, it will be interesting to see how they are developed and, crucially, if they are renewed.
