Peter Bertilsson has highlighted “tremendous growth opportunities” in the in-play market after being confirmed today (Tuesday) as the new president and chief executive of Las Vegas-based sports wagering software and services provider Metric Gaming.

Bertilsson (pictured) will move to Las Vegas at the end of September to work full-time at Metric’s headquarters after having previously served as the company’s chairman of the board.

He will succeed Metric’s founder, Martin de Knijff, who will remain a director and become Metric’s head of business and product development.

“We are focused on pushing the in-play sports betting envelope – from conventional ‘live’ to SuperLive markets – for a reason: we see tremendous growth opportunities there,” Bertilsson told

“Because both the requisite technology is tough to master and the analytics and algorithms behind our markets take years to perfect, we see an excellent window of opportunity in this space right now.”

Bertilsson added that his primary area of focus in his initial months at the helm will be “to consolidate all the fantastic ideas the company has and to package and prioritise them well”.

He added: “For the first time in my career in this industry, the problem is not technology but having too many good ideas to work with.” understands that former Shuffle Master, Zynga, InstantAction and Electronic Arts executive Louis Castle will be unveiled tomorrow as Metric’s new chairman of the board, succeeding Bertilsson in the role.

Bertilsson previously led Boss Media from operating at a loss in 2001 to becoming the best performing stock on the Swedish stock exchange within three years.

In 2010, he joined bwin Games (formerly Ongame), to head up the company’s poker division. Within two years, bwin had sold the Ongame division in a structured auction to online gaming giant Amaya Gaming.

“Metric Gaming is one of the most innovative companies I have seen in my 20 years in this industry,” Bertilsson added.

“It has been a pleasure serving as Metric’s Chairman, and I am thrilled with this opportunity to take over the reins as CEO and help this company reach its full and tremendous potential.”
