Ffos Las is the 16th British course to join ARC's portfolio.

Ffos Las Racecourse has joined 15 other courses in Arena Racing Company’s (ARC) portfolio, after ARC acquired it from founder and previous owner Dai Walters.

The Carmarthenshire course opened in 2009 and was, at the time, the first new racecourse in Britain in over 80 years.

A flat oval, a mile and a half around, Ffos Las hosts a total of 19 fixtures in 2018 - six flat and thirteen jumps.  Feature races include the Ladbrokes Welsh Champion Hurdle in October as well as the West Wales National, which takes place during Easter.

Previously, ARC had been engaged in a management contract with Ffos Las Racecourse, but the course will now be owned by the UK’s biggest racecourse group.

Sam Cone, ARC PR & Communications Manager, told “When it was opened in 2009, Ffos Las was the first new racecourse built in Britain in nearly 80 years.  It is a fair, flat track, which gives more opportunities for horsemen based in Wales, and the South West of England, in what is a beautiful part of the country.

“Part of the appeal of British racecourses is the variety available for horsemen and racegoers across the country and as such, we’re delighted to welcome Ffos Las to the ARC family.

“ARC has enjoyed a long relationship with Ffos Las Racecourse.  Adding the racecourse to our group, however, means that it can benefit from our wider experience of running racecourses and other associated events.

“We’re very much looking forward to working with the team there to integrate the racecourse into our group and developing the business even further.”

Totally Gaming says: Dai Walters was the man who transformed the site of a South Wales coal mine into one of Britain’s most popular racecourses, so selling the track to ARC must have been a difficult thing to do. That said, if ARC can get the best out of the venue, it will be beneficial for all parties.
