Why football clubs can benefit from DFS and its big data

Oulala CEO Valery Bollier has made the case for DFS

Attendees at the Daily Fantasy Sports Expo have been told that finding a DFS partner brings a lot more benefits than just a commercial partnership.  Valery Bollier, CEO of DFS operator Oulala, spoke last week at the London Expo on the subject of daily fantasy sports and how football clubs can utilise it to vastly improve their digital strategies.

Bollier mused: “This is the first game that allows you to prove to your friends that you know sports better than them. For this purpose it must be based on skill.”

He explained that to ensure that skill became a central feature of the Oulala game, they hired a team of statisticians who were ‘locked away in a room for six months’ with the purpose of creating a game which was as close to reality as possible. Bollier also went into detail on how DFS offers an ideal path for football clubs to expand and improve their levels of engagement through digital strategies.

Bollier said that due to its extensive use of big data, sports clubs get access to quality, data driven content by teaming up with DFS operators such as themselves.

Oulala previously had a partnership in pace with Ligue 1 club Monaco but Bollier admitted that this was not the most successful. There was a lot of testing during this time and not all strategies paid off to the extent that they had hoped for. He poised however that this put them in excellent stead for their new partnership with EPL champions Leicester City.

On the subject of igaming and DFS Bollier said that it is an ideal match for numerous reasons. He noted: “DFS is more social than any other current game in the igaming sector. Importantly too it’s not playing against your customers, it’s your customers playing against one another which should mean a better relationship.”

He continued: “DFS is structurally loyal. A lot of players play with their friends meaning they’re far less likely to switch operators. Engagement is also massive with the amount of time players tend to spend handpicking their DFS line ups as opposed to wagering on a sportsbook.”

To round off Bollier said that his operation brings big data onto the hands of the players, not just the corporations. He said: “The advances in big data is helping operators in igaming, not customers. With DFS it can help the players too!”

Totally Gaming says: Bollier’s talk was one of the highlights of the DFS Expo as the Oulala CEO delivered an engaging and informative breakdown of the many advantages of DFS across industries. As traditional sports clubs move into esports to engage younger fans, they would be fools not to look at the potential of partnering with a DFS product too.
