Interview: Bede Gaming targets major deals in wake of Rank Group partnership

Bede Gaming commercial director Michael Brady has told today (Thursday) that the digital gaming platform provider’s new partnership with the Rank Group could act a ‘springboard’ for more deals with other large operators.

Under the new agreement, British gambling operator Rank will move its digital businesses from OpenBet onto the Bede Gaming platform. This will include the transfer of the Grosvenor Casino and Mecca Bingo brands.

Customers of such services will continue to have access to the same game content already available from providers such as IGT and Evolution Gaming, but will also be granted access to additional content from suppliers like Quickfire, Novomatic and WMS.

“From Bede’s point of view it will allow us to grow our platform faster and to deliver enhanced features to our customers more quickly,” Brady told

“Up until now, we have been a little under the radar in terms of big companies and lotteries considering us as a potential platform supplier. I hope that when we deliver Rank’s platform that it will be the springboard for more deals with large operators who are looking for an up to date flexible and device agnostic platform.

“We are not planning to go out and sign lots of deals on the back of the Rank announcement, but we hope to be in the running for major deals in the next few years.”

In the medium-term, the move to the Bede Gaming platform will integrate Rank’s land-based systems, which in turn will enable the operator to have a single view of customers across both its digital and land-based operations.

In addition, Rank Group will have access to Bede Gaming’s bonus system and loyalty scheme.

“In the short-term, we have been recruiting heavily over the past five months to have enough developers to deliver Rank’s requirements and we will soon need to move to new offices because we’ve run out of space in our existing offices in Newcastle,” Brady added.

“We will learn a great deal from working with a company with the scale and reputation of Rank and I hope they will benefit from having a platform provider that is relatively nimble and dedicated to a small number of clients.

“Everyone in Bede and Rank has emphasised right from the start of our discussions more than a year ago that this needs to be a partnership rather than a client-provider relationship and I think that mentality will positively impact everything we do.”
