The UK Adverting Standards Authority (ASA) has revealed that Paddy Power’s ad campaign featuring Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius was the most complained about advert in the UK during 2014. The advert, which referred to the outcome of a trial in which Pistorius was accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, attracted an ASA record of 5,525 complaints. The ASA in March last year opted to uphold these complaints and ruled that the advert must not appear again...

Elsewhere, online gaming operator Mr Green has revealed a 36.3-per-cent year-on-year jump in revenue during the 12 months through to December 31, 2014. The firm posted revenue of SEK650.4m (€69m/$78m) in 2014, while EBITDA excluding items affecting comparability for the full-year was up 26.2 per cent to SEK134.8m. Meanwhile, over in the US, the push for a wider legalisation of sports betting has been given a further boost after a poll revealed significant support from professional athletes in the country. Conducted by US pay-television broadcaster ESPN, the poll suggested that 63 per cent of athletes surveyed would back legalised sports wagering. Nevada is the currently the only state in the US in which punters can bet on sporting events...

Also in the US, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has introduced a new online gaming voluntary self-exclusion registration option as part of an effort to boost its commitment to responsible gambling. Players in the US state can now voluntarily exclude themselves from online gaming activities via the DGE website...

Meanwhile in the UK, Gala Bingo has appointed Victoria Reed as its new head of bingo. Reed, a newcomer to the gambling industry, will join the online and land-based bingo operator from mobile advertising technology company Amobee.
