Leander Games chief technology officer Marcelo Blanco told TotallyGaming.com about his career so far, his future aspirations and his advice for others in the industry.

TotallyGaming.com: When was your big break in your career?

Marcelo Blanco: “With a few years of experience behind me and after acquiring my university degree, I understood that I could strengthen my position by developing my technical knowledge and adding some marketing and commercial background too. I would say the formal education received through my degree and the lessons learned while at the MBA, were the perfect mix to take me to my current career status.”

TotallyGaming.com: What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?

MB: “When I was working on my first personal project, one of my collaborators told me that the best way to keep partners motivated and improve loyalty is to never keep anything to myself, to share all my knowledge, and opposite to what you might think this will lead to an increased trust and commitment.”

TotallyGaming.com: What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?

MB: “The biggest challenge I face each day, along with my team is keeping LeGa (our casino gaming platform) working at the highest level while also including new features and functionalities to improve the casinos and partners experience.”

TotallyGaming.com: What is the most difficult decision you have ever taken in your career?

MB: “One of the most difficult decisions was deciding to switch from the financial and banking sector to the gaming industry, as this was done while Leander Games was still in a pretty early stage.”

TotallyGaming.com: What sort of qualities do you look for in an applicant for a job?

MB: “When interviewing an applicant I try to understand if the person in front of me shows interest and hunger for knowledge and the challenges we love to face. Motivation and willingness to learn are vital qualities to have if you are going to join our passionate team.”

TotallyGaming.com: What do you believe is the key ingredient to putting together a successful team of staff members?

MB: “To have open communication, a fun environment and an agreed commitment between team members.”

TotallyGaming.com: What would be your key piece of advice for someone starting out in the betting and gaming industry?

MB: “I would say that something that is absolutely required for this industry is to always think of the end-customer’s welfare. We provide an entertainment service, and as such, we need to be sure that our customers always enjoy it in a secure, responsible and reliable environment.”

TotallyGaming.com: What are your future career aspirations?

MB: “One of my biggest career aspirations is to be able to contribute with Leander, being part of the growth of the company, and having the opportunity to collaborate with all the partners with whom I’m lucky to share my day-to-day job. Also, I would like to be recognized as someone who adds value to this industry while providing a different approach to an always increasing array of requirements.”
