Can 888 become “dominant” across Europe?

The gaming operator has now launched in Denmark

888 has told it is well placed to be "dominant" across regulated European markets after finally launching in Denmark.

The company was approved for a Danish licence in 2011, but exited the market to focus on US operations soon after.

However, after launching operations in Romania earlier this month, 888 has now continued its expansion strategy by entering Denmark with its suite of poker, casino and sports book.

“We are proud to offer the 888 marquee brands in the Danish market, which reaffirms our strategy to become a dominant operator in global gaming regulations,” an 888 spokesperson told

“Naturally we keep a close eye on the regulatory environment across Europe and with our significant expertise of launching in regulated markets and rapidly developing leading positions in those markets we continue to be well placed to capitalise on positive regulatory developments.”

In its recent H1 statement, the company said it was following developments in Portugal, Poland, the Netherlands, Czech Republic and “other European markets that are considering or are in the process of reforming their regulatory landscapes”.

It said that Portugal “has adopted a commercially challenging licensing regime”, but was hopeful of adding to its growth in the UK, Italy and Spain.
