Newly-installed CEO wants ‘greater relevance’

Frans van Steenis believes that the newly combined Staatsloterij and De Loto entity in the Netherlands will offer “greater social relevance” after he was confirmed as its new chief executive.

Van Steenis, who had been serving as CEO of Staatsloterij, will lead the venture after the merger between the Dutch lottery providers was finalised following a wait of more than five months.

De Loto’s former managing director, Claire Lurvink will assume the role of chief financial officer.

“Staatsloterij and De Loto have now formed what is the biggest traditional Dutch lottery organisation,” Van Steenis said. “The Dutch lottery will now have a much greater social relevance than ever before.”

At a press conference, Lurvink said that the merger would improve financial efficiencies.

The Netherlands’ Council of Ministers, who approved the deal in October 2015, have estimated that the new operator could generate annual revenues of more than €1bn. For the time being, the two entities will retain their existing separate lottery products.

Earlier this week, the soon-to-be-merged companies signed an exclusive partnership with Canada-based games supplier NYX Gaming.

TotallyGaming.com says:

Whilst waiting for the deal to be finalised, Staatsloterij and De Loto have been busy behind the scenes so they can hit the ground running under Van Steenis, a safe pair of hands who has more than a quarter of a century of experience at leading companies such as Adecco and Deloitte as well as in the gaming sector. The joint entity will be at the forefront of companies waiting for the legalisation of online gambling services in the Netherlands.
