The latest from GamCrowd’s Chris North

Firstly, welcome to GamCrowd TechWeek. After our foray last year which established an appetite for a conference dedicated to all things tech and gambling, we have this year expanded our horizons and come to you with an expanded line-up of events and an stellar line-up of speakers and contributors.

As with last year, our Tech Week events takes place during London Tech Week, which itself has already established itself as one of the world’s leading tech events.

Our vision for GamCrowd TechWeek is simple – to give a platform for the amazing tech that the gambling industry develops and at the same time help the industry understand and navigate the next stage in the tech revolution.

To kick the week off on Monday June 12th we are organising an artificial intelligence meet up which will feature a chat with John O’Malia, the founder of AI-based startup VAIX and an advocate of how much the advance sin AI are set to transform the gambling sector.

We then head on to the centrepiece of the week, the TechWeek Conference which takes place on Wednesday 14 June where we have a full line-up of both contributors and content that we truly feel will advance the knowledge of all who attend when it comes to the potential adoption of new technology in the gambling space.

The first panel will tackle the subject head on and will ask what are the main challenges facing the gambling sector when it comes to technology. The panel features Dave McDowell, chief executive and founder of FSB Technology, Max Francis from gaming technology startup Black Cow, Andrew Reader from early-stage investment firm Velo Partners and finally Vahe Baloulian, the chief executive from sportsbook backend provider BetConstruct.

We then move on to an area which we have covered extensively on GamCrowd News, the impact of blockchain on the gambling industry. To help us navigate this truly transformational sector, we have Dr. Hans Lombardo, co author of the GamCrowd blockchain report and founder of the Chain of Things, Imogen Bunyard from Zerado, Thomas Bertani from Orcalize and finally Mihai Cimpoesu from DLT LAB. Lots of interesting developments in this space so one not to be missed for sure.

The day moves swiftly on to consider the impact of the subject of our most recent subject of the month, regtech. With the issues of personal data, ePrivacy and the various regulatory challenges facing both the fintech and the gambling sector alike, we thought this was a good time to bring together some of the leaders in this emerging and exciting sector. On the panel we have Anatoly Kvitnitsky from digital identity specialists Trulioo, Jamie Miles from another digital identity firm Onfido and Richard Williams from the London law firm Joelson  The panel is chaired by Marc Wood from Gambler Analytics

The day moves on and very much looks into the future with a presentation from Marcus Wareham, a digital transformation specialist and consultant who will pass on his wisdom after working at the cutting edge within the gambling sector for the past 17 years. Marcus will also run through our the course we have developed as part of our partnership with Clarions Totally Gaming Academy.

Back with fintech and out next panel on the day will look at the lessons that gambling can learn from other sectors and their relationship with technology and innovation. Speaking on that panel is Stuart Milson from financial services startup BrokerCompare, which recently launched an offering which looks for the cheapest broking deals available online. We then have Mike Read from Pelican Exchange, another trading platform, consultant Michael Berns and Simo Dragicevic machine-learning led problem gambling specialist BetBuddy. Our own Chris North will be chairing that panel.

Another recent subject of the months from GamCrowd was AI and for this panel we have another stellar line up which Andreas Hartman from VAIX who will be hosting. He will be talking to Andres Koukorinis from sports-betting AI-based startup Stratagem, which has launched the StrataBet site, Liam Casey from Stratifai, and  Lonnie Hamm who works on the data side at Kindred Group.

One of the toughest questions facing the gambling industry is whether it has enough of the right type of people to hire and talking about this question will be a panel made up of Helen Walton from gaming specialists Gamevy, Robin Beatty from tech recruitment firm Mortimer Spinks, Mitsuya Fujimoto from Asian gaming startup Ganapati Malta. The host for this session will be Rick Brownlow from Geektastic.

To end the conference, we have our own chairman Ian Hogg who will provide a round-up for the day and will ask the key question for many – whether the industry should buy or build technology.

Then, after the fireworks of the conference we then on the Friday host a unique opportunity to have a tour around some of London’s tech hotspots in and around the so-called Silicon Roundabout to meet some of the hottest startups working on technology in the capital.

We hope the whole week will provide an opportunity for the best in gambling technology to explain the advances that are being made and to make the case for even more investment in the area. The aim of the conference week from GamCrowd’s point of view is to create the interface between the gambling industry’s thought leaders and the global world of technology, innovation and disruption. We are also looking to empower the gambling industry to identify, learn about, prepare for and adopt game-changing technology and to champion gamtech innovation to the global tech sector.

We hope the GamCrowd TechWeek will go some way to achieving these aims. The Week takes place between June 12-16 and for more information contact me at Chris@GamCrowd.com. We hope to see you later in the month.
