Rahul Sood - the future of casino entertainment will include esports

Unikrn, the esports betting operator, believes that it can provide casinos with the new vision they have been looking for to refresh their product mix on the gaming floor.

It was announced this week that Chris Grove has joined Unikrn’s Board of Advisors, as the company looks to educate and work with land-based casinos in how esports can help to attract a younger demographic of players.

Casinos have been showing a vested interest in adding esports platforms of late, as the number of ‘millennial’ players continues to fall. Gamblit Gaming for instance recently signed a deal with Caesars Entertainment.

Grove, a veteran in the igaming scene in the States, is a partner at Narus Advisors which is one of the organisers behind the Las Vegas Casinos and Esports Conference on 25-26 October. Unikrn CEO Rahul Sood stated in a blog post on Monday that having met Grove a few times he had been keen to get him involved in Unikrn in some capacity going forward for some time.

Speaking to TotallyGaming.com, Sood said: “Over the last two years Unikrn has been building technology to enable world class spectator and skill based esports betting experiences. In the meantime, land based casinos have been looking for new ways to attract and retain younger people on their properties.  The future of casino entertainment will most certainly include esports.

“As the only authentic esports brand in the space, it should be no surprise that Unikrn has been approached by major casino operators from around the world to help power their esports experiences.

"We asked Chris Grove to join us to help Unikrn create the casino "Powered by Unikrn" experience.  I think there are few people with the passion and experience for esports and betting like Chris, this was an obvious decision for us.”

Sood continued: “In terms of our plans, we aren't getting into specifics just yet, but there is a ton a exciting things going on.  In the last 24 months it felt like casinos were at 5%, in terms of moving forward with esports.  Recently it's gone from 5% to 95%.  They have their foot on the gas and Unikrn has been ready and waiting for this moment.”

Sood will be speaking at next month’s Eig Expo on 18-20 October in Berlin. His session on the first day is billed as a ‘fireside chat’ with the title: “eSports - Just a buzzword or destined for the stars?” To find out more - click here.

Totally Gaming says: The land based casino space is badly in need of innovation and something fresh. Adding newly rebranded slots isn’t cutting the mustard and instead adding skill based esports games optimised for casinos seems like a very strong bet.
