Microgaming had to conform to India's strict currency laws

Software developer Microgaming says it hopes many more operators will join Thrill Poker on its bespoke MPN India network within the next few months.

The network has been created purely for the Indian market, with the country’s foreign exchange laws meaning that shared liquidity across borders is not permitted.

Thrill Poker was announced as MPN India’s first recruitment earlier this month, and Microgaming believes that its offering will prove to be superior to existing alternatives in the country.

“The MPN India offers operators and their players a first-class poker experience,” a spokesperson told TotallyGaming.com.

“They will benefit from the MPN’s renowned features such as fast-fold poker variant Blaze Poker, Achievements and Anonymous Tables.

“The main difference is that the MPN India is a ring-fenced network, operating exclusively in Indian Rupees. It’s a tailored offering built specifically for the Indian market.”

Thrill Poker itself has certainly been impressed by Microgaming’s progress in creating the India-only network, with director Aditya Oberoi telling TotallyGaming.com that a great deal of effort was needed to bring it to market.

Oberoi added: “MPN have been very cooperative in setting up the Indian Rupee currency, and platform for us, which will no doubt suit and benefit future operators out of India.

“Foreign exchange laws in India do not currently allow for us to share liquidity with any foreign operators, and until there are amendments in these laws, we have limited gameplay on real money to our Indian customers only.”

Having expended so much effort in creating the Indian network, Microgaming is now looking to add more partners as it seeks a share of the country’s huge potential.

The spokesperson added: “Naturally, given that poker is increasing in popularity in India, we hope to see growth in the coming months. We have a number of operators in the pipeline to join the network.

“It’s early days for us with poker in India, but as with all new markets we enter, we’re very excited about what lies ahead.”
