Record performance for Australian slots manufacturer

Outgoing Aristocrat CEO and managing director Jamie Odell is to leave the company on a high after a record 12-month performance.

Odell, who is due to leave the firm in the new year, highlighted the trajectory of consistent and high quality NPATA growth and cash generation of the gaming supplier over the past year.

He commented: “Once again, our performance reflected strengthening operational performance, which in turn drove market-leading share growth and significantly improved returns across key segments.

“Over the coming period, we will continue to focus on growing share and profitability by investing in compelling product portfolios targeted to priority segments in our core business. We will also pursue opportunities in new markets and key adjacencies with the benefit of our expanding capabilities and momentum, consistent with our commitment to grow in the interests of our shareholders, customers and staff.”

Group performance was well ahead of the prior corresponding period, with an NPATA result of AUS$398.2 million representing a 68.7% increase on the result to 30 September 2015.

Aristocrat sad its investments in ‘top talent, targeted games, cabinets and technology’, together with improved execution, underpinned performance across key markets and segments. Significant share growth was delivered across the US premium gaming operations segment and outright sales segments in the US, Australia and Asia Pacific, supported by further increases in average fee per day and average selling price, and an outstanding result in Aristocrat’s Digital segment.

Indeed the Digital revenues increased by 82% to $269 million in constant currency terms, mainly thanks to the Heart of Vegas game range.

A new Android Heart of Vegas app boosted the number of daily average users by 16% to about 1.27 million, signalling a continuing shift to mobile devices during the year, with the percentage of users on mobile channels jumping from 36 per cent in 2015 to 68%.

Odell commented: “Our digital business continues to scale and mature. By period end, Aristocrat's digital social business was the industry’s fifth largest by gross revenues, up from tenth just two years ago.”

Growth in the Americas market was driven by a mix of proprietary and licensed games, while the take up of new cabinet designs also supported growth.

Totally Gaming says: These latest results show how big a challenge Trevor Croker has on his hands when he replaces Odell in February – fortunately the company has handled succession planning well and he should be able to call on Odell’s vast expertise when necessary.
