Planning committee approves plans for seaside town development

Aspers Group chief operating officer Richard Noble has said is “very happy” that plans for his firm’s new casino in Bournemouth had been given the go-ahead.

The council’s planning committee last week approved the plans to include a casino in the south coast resort’s new BH2 development after the original decision had been deferred for a month due to the application’s ‘lack of clarity’.

However councillors on the planning committee have voted 6 to 2 in favour of the plans, with Noble telling the local press: “We’re excited to be at the heart of the leisure facilities in this development.”

The new two-floor casino will be open 24 hours a day, 364 days a year, with live jazz music, a VIP area and gaming machines.

Some councillors expressed frustration that the casino was not part of the original plans for the £50 million BH2 development which will also house an Odeon cinema and restaurants including TGI Fridays and Prezzo. The first phase of the centre is due to open in the New Year, with all venues up and running by mid-February.

Totally Gaming says: Casinos are recognised as part of a wider leisure experience and therefore it is no surprise that these plans have been given the green light, despite some grumbling from local politicians with one saying that he “could not argue” with the legitimacy of the application in planning terms.
