Phil Cronin is spearheading more growth at the online bingo operation

Tombola chief executive Phil Cronin has said that the bingo company wants to ‘create the best working environment for our team and hope to build the best office campus in the region’.

The comments were made as the firm announced that it intends to employ a further 80 people after revealing plans earlier in the month to build a new 25,000 square feet office next to its current headquarters in Sunderland in the North East of England.

The new jobs will mainly be in software development, while other roles will include animators, graphic designers, and project management positions.

Cronin added: “One of the things that we’re particularly proud of is that we produce all our own original gaming software and we’re one of the largest employers of game and web developers in the region. Originating and developing the best gaming software means attracting and retaining the best talent in a growing and highly competitive market. Providing world-class facilities for our team – and future employees – will help us achieve this.”

Tombola is the most popular bingo site in the UK and has kept a profile through the sponsorship of several female friendly TV shows but was also the shirt sponsor of Sunderland AFC for two seasons. Tombola has benefited from the expertise that Cronin gained from his family’s experience in the land-based bingo industry as the family business Edward Thompson has been supplying bingo halls with printed tickets for decades.

Totally Gaming says: Tombola is rightly lauded as a North East success story and the benefits that come from sticking to a core competency to outshine the opposition. With growth in the company boosting the city of Sunderland (and other operations in Gibraltar, Madrid and Milan) this latest recruitment drive will see the company increase by almost a third to c400 employees.
