CEO Henry Birch backed the operator's strategy

Digital growth has helped Rank Group to a seven-per-cent rise in total revenue during the first 15 weeks of the financial year, the gambling operator revealed in a trading update this (Thursday) morning.

Grosvenor Casinos’ online and mobile offering was up 56 per cent year-on-year through to October 11, with Mecca Bingo’s digital revenue up 10 per cent, including a mobile hike of 50 per cent.

Turnover at Grosvenor’s 58 casinos was up nine per cent, making for a total revenue rise of 12 per cent. Mecca's one-per-cent rise in revenue was constrained by a two-per-cent drop in venue performance.

The company said that it has been “encouraged that all of the group's businesses continue to make progress in line with management’s expectations”. 

Rank president and chief executive Henry Birch added: “The group has had a good start to the financial year.

“We are seeing a continued strong performance from our Grosvenor Casinos brand, particularly in its digital channel and London casinos, as well as an improving admissions trend in our Mecca venues combined with good growth in Mecca's digital business.”

Rank is set to launch its new Bede Gaming-created platform in early 2016, with Birch identifying that development as key to its future.

He said: “We continue to work on our five strategic priorities, particularly the development of our new digital platform which is on track to be launched in calendar Q1 2016 and we will provide a more detailed update at our forthcoming interim results in January 2016.”
