CEO Mor Weizer hailed the deal with Sun Bingo

Playtech has continued its revival through gaming thanks to a new long-term deal to power Sun Bingo.

The Israeli company has suffered two major setbacks in its ambition to become a market leader in financial trading in recent weeks, with its bid for Plus500 scrapped in November following regulatory problems, while its acquisition of AvaTrade has been opposed by the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI).

Virtue Fusion, Playtech’s bingo division, will manage the Sun Bingo – linked to the UK national newspaper - and Fabulous Bingo websites and mobile variants, which are owned by News UK, from August 2016 and have about 15,000 customers. The sites were previously powered by Gamesys.

The five-year deal with News UK, announced on Monday, is worth hundreds of millions of pounds, according to theFinancial Times newspaper.

Playtech already runs bingo services for Gala Coral, Mecca Bingo, William Hill and Paddy Power Bingo, which between them have an estimated 20,000 online players at any one time in the UK.

Mor Weizer, Playtech chief executive, said: “The Playtech-powered Sun Bingo will use cutting-edge technology to offer best-performing and highly innovative bingo and side games, with fantastic promotions and prizes and the industry's largest jackpots.

“This is a fantastic partnership that is aligned with our ongoing strategy of working with the best operators and media brands in regulated markets. We look forward to working closely with News UK to deliver a first-class product.”
