Sportradar enhances audiovisual offering with sportman media acquisition

Although already firmly established as one of the largest data, odds and trading services providers in the betting sector, Sportradar has moved to bolster its offering with the acquisition of sportman media holding. 

Specialising in sports media rights, marketing and platforms, sportman’s shares and core business will be acquired by Sportradar from the firm’s founders, Thomas Krohne and Karl Wieseneder.

Carsten Koerl, chief executive of Sportradar, said that the agreement will enable the company to create one of the largest audiovisual sports offerings currently available from a single provider.

“Even after 15 years in the betting industry, Sportradar never rests on its laurels,” Koerl said. “Although we already provide the market-leading offering in data, odds and trading services, this agreement marks a shift.

“It will upgrade our audiovisual portfolio and will ensure that our clients will have the broadest and best range of solutions to choose from, whether on an individual basis, or whether on a bespoke bundle of solutions basis.”

In addition to the core sportman business, Sportradar will now take ownership of global online sports television channel LAOLA1.tv, as well as Austrian sports website new media service partner for clubs and organisations, LAOLA1 Media, and the unas media productions live streaming and video-platform production operation.

The agreement remains subject to approval from relevant anti-trust authorities, but both Sportradar and sportman expect the deal to go through no later than June of this year.

Krohne said: "We have chosen an ideal buyer for our group of companies with Sportradar; the sports rights, production and platform business we set up perfectly complements that of Sportradar. The size and international orientation of Sportradar offer the ideal conditions for successfully developing the business we set up.”
