PokerStars' new UK platform to focus on player fund protection

Online poker brand PokerStars has launched a new platform in the UK as part of an effort to demonstrate its commitment to protecting customers in the market and adhere to new UK gambling regulations.

The new platform, which was pushed out to customers yesterday (Monday), has been launched in accordance with PokerStars’ new UK Gambling Commission licence.

In order for UK customers to continue accessing their PokerStars account, they will have to move their current account by downloading an updated desktop client of mobile application.

Speaking to TotallyGaming.com about the new launch, Michael Josem, the head of public relations at PokerStars, said that the operator expected the transition to be seamless and the new platform to provide UK customers with “total confidence” that their funds are safe.

“The new software will offer players the opportunity to play with the same players in the same games that UK players enjoyed on the previous software,” Josem told TotallyGaming.com

“The log-in details, account balance and history of UK players will not be affected by the change.

“We expect that it will be a seamless transition, with most players hardly even noticing the change, since PokerStars and Full Tilt were already operating in the UK as a ‘white-listed’ company approved to do business throughout the country on the basis of the existing Isle of Man licensing.

“One key boost for players will be player fund protection, with the UK Gambling Commission having introduced a rating system for player fund protection.

“PokerStars and Full Tilt have volunteered to apply the very highest standards of player fund protection, with the use of independent trust accounts that PokerStars and Full Tilt have pioneered on the Isle of Man.

“PokerStars and Full Tilt have chosen to adopt the highest standard possible. This involves a third-party, fully independent trustee being appointed to oversee player funds in United Kingdom.

“Each day, a report will be sent to the trustees detailing the total UK customer deposits, and the trustee will then ensure there are more funds in the trust than total customer balances. This will give players total confidence that their funds are safe and secure.”

Josem said that the new platform would also allow PokerStars to expand its customer base in the UK.

“The UK market is very important to PokerStars, and we are going to use this opportunity to grow our player base in the UK,” Josem said.

“Poker is a very popular game in the United Kingdom, with some of the world’s leading poker players based in the UK. These include Team PokerStars’ Victoria Coren Mitchell, the first two-time winner of the European Poker Tour.”
