SkyBet has named Paddy Power’s Tom Murgatroyd as head of its new Sky Casino online gambling brand. Murgatroyd, who previously served as head of live casino at Paddy Power, had been placed on gardening leave by the Irish bookmaker but is now expected to join SkyBet imminently, according to various reports. Upon joining Paddy Power in March 2009, Murgatroyd first served as online casino product manager before being promoted to head of live casino the following September. Prior to his four-year spell at Paddy Power, Murgatroyd served as business development manager at the Voice Commerce Group for nine months and also held a number of roles at GE Money during a stay that lasted nearly five years. Speaking to TotallyGaming.com, Murgatroyd said: "There is already an excellent team of people here at Skybet so the main focus is to bring experience in Playtech products and the intense focus on live dealer games to drive incremental gaming revenues. "Our in house expertise and that of our software partners means we are well positioned to deliver results, the key is for us to make sure we move fast in the areas that are most important to our players. "Sky has a very strong brand, and is already extremely well positioned to grow its market share in the UK betting and gaming market. "Following a period of extensive research we spotted an opportunity in the market to grow our online casino customer base by offering them a second casino experience. "Sky Casino was borne as a result of the way Sky Vegas was perceived to be more slots orientated and not necessarily a traditional casino experience. "We’ve created Sky Casino to be a more serious, professional casino experience, where the proposition is more personal and exactly the kind of experience you’d expect from Sky."
