Betradar Euro Cup Virtual Tournament has Germany coming out on top

The group stages of this year’s European Championships may be coming to an end, but in the world of virtual sports the tournament has already been won – over 500 times.

The statistics come from Sportradar, which released its new Betradar Euro Cup product a month ahead of the kick-off, and from the middle of May through to the beginning of June has run through whole versions of the tournament over 70 minute cycles on its partner websites.

For the record – and bearing in mind the actual football data that informs how the tournaments are run means anyone still looking at betting on the real thing should perhaps pay attention to this – until early June Germany had run out the winners of 15 versions of the tournament with hosts and actual betting favourites France just behind them.

“We launched Betradar’s Euro Cup before the real tournament kicked off and saw a healthy level of interest as our customers started getting into the spirit of the tournament,” said Maxim Afanasyev, head of trading at Russian-facing operator Liga Stavok. “As the real tournament progresses, interest in the virtual Euros has continued to grow. It's easy to understand and punters love to see how the teams will progress.”

Sportradar pointed out that the product is not merely a sports substitute. “For us the product is all about the gameplay – that is what our clients are interested in,” says the managing director of virtual gaming at Sportradar Neale Deeley. “The Euro Cup product features statistics, form and markets which replicate a real betting environment. It adds that distinct element of excitement and anticipation that all products have, whether its sports or gaming.”

Sportradar says the product will now be rolled out for all major tournaments throughout the football year, starting with next season’s Champions League and progressing through to next year’s African Nations Cup and the World Cup hosted in Russia in 2018.

Yet football punters aren’t the only demographic attracted by virtual sports – whether it is football or the other sports available such as basketball. The product also has an appeal for casino punters that are looking for something more from their gaming experience that simple slots.
