Gaming companies score with basketball deals

Links between basketball and the gambling industry have been strengthened with a series of new deals.

Ladbrokes has become the official sports betting and wagering partner of Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL), with the UK bookmaker looking to take advantage of the competition’s national primetime coverage through Fox Sports.

The partnership with the NBL exposes Ladbrokes to a five-state market in Australia with the competition’s roster including teams in Western Australia, Adelaide, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales.

“We are very excited to enter into partnership with the NBL and most particularly appreciate its national footprint which will allow Ladbrokes to continue to expand our business,” said James Burnett, Ladbrokes Australia’s chief marketing officer.

In another deal, Turkish gaming company Spor Toto has struck a one-season deal to become the new title sponsor of the Süper Ligi, the top division of club basketball in the country.

Under a deal struck with the Turkish Basketball Federation, the competition will now be known as the Spor Toto Basketbol Ligi.

Meanwhile, the British Basketball League (BBL) has formed a partnership with betting integrity solutions provider Sport Integrity Monitor (SportIM).

SportIM will observe and analyse the worldwide betting markets on BBL events and work directly with the league to prevent any issues.

Andy Webb, chief operating officer at the BBL, said: “Our partnership with Sport Integrity Monitor will help us to ensure we continue to protect our players, fans and stakeholders from the threat of match fixing. Thankfully we have not encountered issues of this kind before but it is our belief that proactive and preventative measures are essential to maintain this record.

“Working with the industry leader in integrity monitoring preserves the transparency of our matches and reiterates our zero tolerance approach to corruption.”
