John Cruces is delighted by Dafabet's new deal with Sunderland

New Sunderland shirt sponsor Dafabet has told TotallyGaming.com that it will not renew its deal with fellow English Premier League football club Aston Villa.

The sports betting and bingo games operator this week agreed to become Sunderland’s shirt sponsor for 2015-16, and its logo will also appear on the jerseys of Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

However, John Cruces, the Philippines-based company’s head of marketing, said Dafabet will not be extending the now expired two-year deal with Villa, who appeared in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

“In terms of our sponsorship with Villa, it was a two-year deal that has reached its conclusion,” Cruces told TotallyGaming.com.

“We have a good relationship with all at the club and of course wish them the very best of luck on-going in what’s a transitional time for them.

“We were sold on Sunderland’s ambition and plans and were very impressed with the commercial team we met. There are some very good people at the club who we believe we’ll work with – early indications have backed that up. They also ticked the right boxes being a team with tradition and a solid fan base.

“We also noted the impressive Academy of Light facilities and additions to the backroom staff there which are likely to see an increase in young players coming through. In general we’re looking forward to working together.”

Dafabet’s sponsorship of Villa ended on something of a high with their logo appearing on the club’s shirts in the FA Cup final, which is estimated to attract around half a billion viewers worldwide each year.

While Villa were beaten by Arsenal, Cruces told TotallyGaming.com that the company was delighted to have been on display at the Wembley showpiece.

Cruces added: “It’s the FA Cup final - the most traditional final in domestic football, everyone knows the FA Cup final, do people know Copa del Rey say to the same level?

“It achieves higher live viewing figures in comparison to say the Champions League final due to time differences, so for Villa to make the final was great for us for the exposure. Just a shame the result went the way it did.”

Sunderland share Dafabet’s enthusiasm about the sponsorship deal, with the club keen to use the betting operator to lift its profile in Asia.

Sunderland chief executive Margaret Byrne said: “We are delighted to be entering into a partnership with Dafabet. Our regional identity sits proudly at the heart of Sunderland AFC but increasing our global footprint is also key as we look to continue to grow and strengthen the football club for the future.

“Our partnership with Dafabet will open up new markets for us and we welcome them warmly to our Sunderland family.”
