Bigger rollovers: BetVictor boosts Golden Goal promotion

BetVictor has guaranteed £1,000,000 in prizes across the season

BetVictor has targeted “bigger rollovers and winning dividends” for its new-look Golden Goal competition, with a guaranteed £1,000,000 in prizes across the season.

The bookmaker has made a change to the competition after seeing too many weekly winners last season. For example, one weekend when Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the opening goal in the 19th minute there were 926 winners of £27 each, which goes against the ‘Golden Goal’ concept.

This time around, the competition will see customers predict not only the time of the first goal and goalscorer, but also the correct score of the selected game. Manchester United vs West Ham on Sunday marks the first game for this revised promotion.

Eoin Ryan, BetVictor Head of Sportsbook Product, told TotallyGaming.com: “We ran Golden Goal 33 times last season and gave away £900k in prize money. Clearly, we are monitoring the impact that this product has in terms of acquisition of new customers and on-going retention.

“We are pleased with how the first season went but we’d like to generate some bigger rollovers and winning dividends, so the changes we are making are designed with those goals in mind. We are distributing £1m this season, and that’s guaranteed.

“We think that customers expect to win more meaningful amounts than was regularly the case with our original mechanic. Of course, it is harder to win Golden Goal now but we are increasing the guaranteed prize pool to £1m and we are going to be generating more rollovers than we had last season – all of which we believe will keep engagement levels high.”

When asked about rival competitions such as Sky Bet Super 6 and Paddy Power Hotshots, Ryan commented: “We are not massively concerned with what our rivals are doing and tend to just focus on what makes sense for us. Golden Goal came about following the success of our Euro 2016 Million Pound Goal campaign rather than as a direct response to anything our rivals were doing.”

“Of course, we maintain a close eye on competitors but we are happy that our game is unique,” he continued. “The product has very high weekly engagement figures and is doing a solid job of helping us to retain and acquire customers, while providing an entertaining and enjoyable experience. We believe the in-house nature of our product and its seamless integration is a key element in its success.”

Totally Gaming says: BetVictor is building up to the second season of its Golden Goal competition, which will see over £1,000,000 given away for more than 40 Golden Goal games across the European domestic season. The competition, first activated by Ball Street on social media, produced £900,000 in prize money during the 2016/17 season.
